Millionaires companies born in the garage

We often think that the only way to create a good business is to have a large amount of money to invest. In short, if we have nothing we are “passed off” and destined to remain in the same place to do the same job until retirement. Have you ever thought so?

Probably yes and this is roughly the way in which society has accustomed us to think. These are limits that are set before us as children and that we pass on from generation to generation. However, in the world there are many companies born in garages, which have now become industries and companies that bill millions of dollars each year. Do you know what this means?

It means that the exception exists. Just want to create it. Once the decision is made towards the turning point, the first steps can be taken, even without having a lot of money to invest in the pocket. Of course, said so it seems only a hopeful assumption, but in reality there is evidence!

Here are some stories that will convince you that even a millionaire company may have made the first steps in the market, starting from a miserable garage (or anyway from scratch!), While now it has huge offices all over the world …

Let’s start with a giant of online commerce: Amazon. This company was founded in 1994 by Jeff Bezos. At the beginning it was just a little known online bookstore and its offline office was a simple garage in Bellevue (Washington). Amazon sold its first book only in July 1995, but is currently the most famous e-commerce in the world. He sells everything, earns millions of dollars a year and is never short of news and new ideas.

Speaking of another garage, Apple also comes to mind. In 1976, the slightly more than twenty-year-old Steve Jobs, along with Steve Wozniak realized the first 50 computers, which were assembled manually in a garage in Cupertino (California). We want to talk about how much worth Apple now?

I would say that we can not even deal, but rather we can move on to another promising garage: Disney. It is located less than an hour from Disneyland Park in Anaheim, also in California. Mr. Disney started from there, with just a few dollars in his pocket, but managed to give life to “Alice in Wonderland” and from that moment, he has not stopped making success.

Surprising, is not it? Certainly yes, but there is a company that will surprise you even more: Google. The search engine, as well as one of the currently wealthiest companies in the world, was born in a garage in California. Larry Page and Sergey Brin started to create Google in September 1998. However, when they went to school, they had little time to carry out their project. So they tried to sell it to Excite for the interesting figure of one million dollars. The owners of the company refused … and probably now they are eating their hands: Google is the most visited site in the world.

Another millionaire company born not from a simple garage but from a wooden house is the Harley-Davidson. In 1901, 21-year-old William S. Harley began working with the intent of creating a small motor for bicycles. In two years, Harley and his friend Arthur Davidson built their first motorcycle and officially founded their company. From the lodge in Milwaukee (Wisconsin), Harley-Davidson is now the most famous motorcycle company in the world.

Speaking of computers again, it is useful for you to know that in 1939, Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard founded HP. But where did they found it? In Palo Alto, in the Packard garage. A small investment of $ 538 for this space was enough to start building their first product: an audio oscillator. One of their first customers was Disney, who with eight pieces developed the sound system for the film “Fantasia”. From the Palo Alto garage, today HP is a leader in the IT industry.

These stories motivate and make one think that in reality each of us can start from where we are, without having to make large investments. The beauty is that there are also other companies born in a garage, like Lotus Cars and Mattel. Today, we must also say that with the internet everything is much easy.

For example we can decide to open an e-commerce with a few euros (or even nothing) and sell our products: that small virtual store can definitely become a large company … We have seen with Amazon! Even these brands have waited years to get the real success, but they have made it starting from scratch.

Practically many companies that have become millionaires today have humble origins. Therefore, if you have an idea and a passion, do not leave it in the drawer, but start from your garage, from your basement, from your room. No matter where and how you started, like all these people did, you can do it too.
